The one role that received the most speculation is that of Cobra Commander. Joe Club was among the number of websites to confirm Gordon-Levitt's role as Cobra Commander but quickly removed the news soon thereafter, leaving many to think it was erroneous information.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's name was attached to the project very early on. For toys, a series of action figures based on the actors and vehicles as they are seen in the movie are guaranteed for sure.
Snake-Eyes destroys the first missile using his Ice Sabre.
Ripcord takes off in a prototype jet, and destroys the second missile before it reaches Moscow.
In destroying the third warhead, he has to take it to the atmosphere. In the White House, Zartan is now seen posing as the president in the White House.
He ejects and lands in Washington DC, where he is arrested by the Secret Service because of his earlier piloting to stop the nanomites. Whistling to himself "For he's a Jolly Good Fellow", Zartan prepares for word on Cobra's next move. For many reasons, the project went into what is called "development hell," a term referring to the difficulties of getting a planned feature film into actual production.
Electronic Arts recently acquired the license to produce games based on Hasbro's properties from rival publisher Activision, the video game version of The Rise of Cobra being the first game made under this new deal. Rex assumes the identity of the Commander, having healed Mc Cullen's burned face with nanomites, encasing it in silver and naming him "Destro", which places Mc Cullen under the Commander's control. In 1994, Larry Kasanoff and his production company, Threshold Entertainment, held the rights to do a live-action G. In 2003, Lorenzo di Bonaventura was interested in making a film about advanced military technology; Hasbro's Brian Goldner called him and suggested to base the film on the G. Goldner and di Bonaventura spent three months working out a story, and chose Michael B. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a 2009 American military science fiction action film based on the toy franchise created by Hasbro, with particular inspiration from the comic book series and toy line G. Duke and the Baroness pursue him while the Joes fall back; when Rex activates the base's self-destruct sequence, which involves 'blowing the ice cap' to create blocks of ice which then nearly crush the Joes. Meanwhile, Zartan, having had his physical appearance altered by nanomites, infiltrates the White House during the missile crisis and assumes the identity of the President of the United States, thus completing a part of Mc Cullen's plan to rule the world. As late as 1999, there had been rumors that a film from Threshold Entertainment was still a possibility, but that project never panned out. Goldner and di Bonaventura worked together before, creating toy lines for films di Bonaventura had produced as CEO of Warner Bros.Set in "the not too distant future," the film features a mixture of realistic military action and sci-fi style weaponry, such as concussion pistols and nanomites. Before Duke and Ripcord meet a similar fate, they are rescued by Scarlett, Snake-Eyes and Heavy Duty. They take the warheads to General Hawk, head of the G. Joe Team, at their headquarters, The Pit (Movie), in Egypt. Mc Cullen and his mysterious associate, the Doctor, are revealed to be using the same nanotechnology to build an army of soldiers. Joe base and sends Storm Shadow, the Baroness and Zartan with the enhanced Neo-Vipers to retrieve the warheads. Joe track down the Baroness and Storm Shadow and pursue them through the streets of Paris, but are unsuccessful in stopping them from launching the missile.
Producer Don Murphy originally negotiated for the rights to develop a live-action G. Joe feature film following the success of the toy's relaunch and the direct-to-video animated movies. The primary villains were to be Destro and the Baroness, with Cobra Commander in control behind-the-scenes. The story setup would be based on the theme and feel of the comic series published by Marvel.
