The shape of the GNPs become the major variable parameter for our cellular uptake research.To select a safe concentration of P-GNPs for the cellular uptake studies, cytotoxicity was evaluated using the CCK-8 assay.It has been shown that the cellular uptake of rod-like GNPs by He La cells is less efficient than that of spherical ones.Their results suggested that shape did have an influence, but the GNPs with different shapes also had different sizes and surface functional groups leading to ambiguity in how much of the observed effects were due to shape alone. suggested that the triangular gold nanoparticles showed more effective cellular uptake than did spherical ones with similar surface area and this difference was more obvious in He La cells than that in RAW264.7 cells.The cellular uptake of P-GNPs was higher at 24 h than at 8 h.

The intracellular concentrations of gold after incubation for 8 h with P-GNSs, P-GNRs, and P-GNTs were 0.098 ± 0.0003 pg/cell, 0.463 ± 0.047 pg/cell, and 0.488 ± 0.003 pg/cell, respectively.
